North Texas Tied For Second Heading Into The Final Round

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (4/10/06) The North Texas men’s golf team continued its resurgence as they are tied for second place heading into the final round at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic from the Talking Stick Golf Club.


Following a second round of 4-under par 276, the Mean Green is tied with Arizona and Wyoming, four shots behind clubhouse leader New Mexico State.


North Texas was led by sophomore Austin Welch who blistered the course with an opening round of 3-under par 67 and is tied for 10th place after the first day.


Raul Lemus is also tied for 10th place with a 2-under par 68 in the second round and has a two-round score of 140. Welch and Lemus are three shots behind the leader heading into the final round.


Ben Smock rebounded from an opening round of 74 with a 3-under par 67 in the second round and has a 141. Andreas Kali shot a 74 and even-par 70 in the second round and posted a 144. Sophomore Anthony Broussard had a first round score of 75 and a second round of 71.


The final round begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
