COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Facing its strongest field of the year, the No. 33 North Texas men’s golf team is tied for 11th place after the first day of the Aggie Invitational. The prestigious tournament has all 12 teams ranked in the top-50, four top-10 teams and nine top-25 teams. The Mean Green shot a two-round score of 607 and is tied with No. 45 Texas Tech.
Curtis Donahoe played some of his best golf of the year as he leads the way for the Mean Green at 4-over par as he is tied for 25th place. Donahoe shot an opening round of even-par 72 and then a 4-over par 76. He had six birdies on the day.
Rodolfo Cazaubon is at 8-over par through 36 holes after shooting a 77 and 75. He struggled with eight bogeys in the opening round but bounced back in the second with only four bogeys and two birdies. He is tied for 46nd after the first day.
Gonzalo Rubio is tied for 52nd through 36 holes at 9-over par. He shot a 78 and a 75 and but had just one birdie on the day. Marco Scarola, who is playing as an individual, fired a 77 and 76. He had five total birdies on the day and is tied with Rubio for 52nd place.
Carlos Ortiz is one stroke behind after rounds of 79 and 75. Ortiz had three birdies in the first round, but a final-hole triple bogey put him at 7-over par after 18 holes. He is tied for 56th place.
Jason Roets opened with an 82 after a seven-hole stretch in which he played at 7-over par. He bounced back in the second round to cut five strokes off the first round total with a 77. He is tied for 70th place after 36 holes.
No. 2 Alabama holds the overall team lead, as they are running away from the field at 15-under par to lead by 12 strokes heading into the final round.
