Atkinson Fires Final Round 70 To Pace The Mean Green

LAREDO, Tex. (4/3/04) North Texas senior golfer Zach Atkinson shot a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Border Olympics to finish at even par 216 for the tournament from the Laredo Country Club.

Atkinson shot two rounds under par in the event with a first round score of 70. North Texas as a team shot a final round of 294 to finish in a tie for eight place in the tournament that featured 17 teams.

"I thought that we came out and competed pretty well today," said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. "This is a pretty tough course but Zach was able to shot under par for the second time and I think that we are starting to make some improvements".

Senior Brad Gibson shot a final round scored of 74 to finish the tournament at 225. Weston Bingham fired a third round score of 75, which follows his best round of the season at 71 in the second round. Reid McPherson had a final round of 75 and ended up tied with Gibson at 225 for the tournament. Jason Lindgren shot an 80 in the third round and completed the tournament at 228.

North Texas will next compete in the ASU Indian Golf Classic on April 12-13. The Mean Green are the defending champion of the event and it will be the final tune up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
