LITTLE ROCK, Ark (3/31/09) This is the Dustin Thompson Mean Green fans are use to seeing. The junior golfer led a final round North Texas surge with a 1-under par 71 for the Mean Green at the UALR/First Tee Intercollegiate. His final round of 1-under par was the second lowest round of the day in the field of 96 golfers to start the third round.
Thompson notched his second consecutive top 10 finish as he surged to a tie for seventh place with a three-round score of 220.
Senior Clarke Kincaid had an even better tournament by besting Thompson by a stroke to finish in a tie for fifth place. Kincaid posted a third round score of 2-over par 74. Kincaid’s fifth place finish is a season-best for him.
Senior Harris Graham bounced back from a difficult first day to post his best round of the spring with an even-par 72. Graham shot a three-round score of 228 to finish in a tie for 43rd place.
“I thought that Dustin, Clarke, and Harris all had really strong rounds today and it’s something that all three of them can build on. We just need that to carry over and down to the rest of the guys,” said North Texas coach Brad Stracke.
The entire field of 18 teams had to battle through the blustery and wet conditions but North Texas had its best round of the tournament with a third round of 296. The Mean Green finished alone in 10th place.
Ben Hargis posted a final round of 79 while Lance Byars struggled with an 85. North Texas is back in action on April 13-14 at the Red Wolf Classic in its final tune up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
