Lemus Paces The Mean Green After Day One

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (3/28/05) True freshman Raul Lemus shot a two-round score of 149 to lead the North Texas men’s golf team at the first day of the UALR Trojan Cup from the Chenal Country Club. Lemus opened with a first round of 76 but closed out the day strong with a second round of 1-over par 73 to finish tied for 21st.

 

The Mean Green as a team fired a first round score of 304 and a second round of 298. North Texas is currently tied for eighth place out of 16 teams after the first day.

 

“We played a little bit better today but we can still play at a much higher level,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “Raul (Lemus) had a strong first day and so did some of the other guys. We just need to continue working on being more consistent and making the shots when we have to”.

 

Junior Jason Lindgren is just one shot behind Lemus with a two-round score of 150. Lindgren posted a first round score of 77, but rebounded with a second round of 1-over par 73. Lindgren is tied for 27th place

 

Freshman Anthony Broussard started strong with an opening round of 1-over par 73 but ended the day with a second round of 78. Broussard is tied for 27th place with a two-round total of 151.

 

Andrea Kali and Reid McPherson posted identical scores of 78 and 76 in the first and second rounds and have scores of 154 after the first two rounds of play.

 

The final round of the UALR Trojan Cup will begin tomorrow with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
