LAREDO, Texas - It was an up and down day for the No. 37 North Texas men's golf team as they sit in a tie for sixth place after the opening day of the Border Olympics. The Mean Green was under par in both rounds of golf and after 36 holes they are 5-under par at 571 and tied with Wichita State. Arkansas and Oklahoma share the clubhouse lead at 553 after two rounds.
The Mean Green has only one player in the top 20 and that's Carlos Ortiz who is 2-under par after two rounds. Ortiz shot and opening round of 2-under par 70 and followed that up with an even-par round of 72. Ortiz had 10 birdies on the day in his 36 holes but a double bogey in each round.
Rodolfo Cazaubon and Josh Jones are both even-par after two rounds at 144 and tied for 28th place. Cazaubon opened with a 75 but rebounded with a 3-under par 69. Jones was steady throughout with back-to-back rounds of even-par 72. Jones had nine birdies on the day.
Ty Spinella shot a 3-under par 69 in the first round with four birdies and only one bogey but his second round was 5-over par due in part to three double bogeys. Curtis Donahoe shot a 76 in his first round but bounced back with an even-par round of 72 in his second round.
