Atkinson Fires Final Round 70 To Finish Fourth

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (3/25/03) - Junior golfer Zach Atkinson blistered the course in his final round shooting a two-under par 70 to finish in fourth place at the Chenal Trojan Cup golf tournament at Chenal Country Club.

Atkinson fired a three round total of 214, two-under par after shooting his second round of 70 in the tournament. Atkinson has now finished in the top five for the fifth time this season and he has finished in the top 10 in four of the last five tournaments he has competed in.

The Mean Green had strong final round scores from Brad Besler and Freddy Espericueta who both shot a one-over par 73. Besler ended the tournament at six-over par while Espericueta was two shots back at eight-over par. Brad Gibson had a final round score of 76 to finish at 227 and Thomas Kulcak shot a 77 on the final day to end at 235.

The tournament featured 18 teams competing and the Mean Green finished tied for sixth with Southern Miss with a three day score of 883. North Texas fired their best round of the tourney on the final day with a score of 292.

The Mean Green are back in action on April 14-15 at the ASU Indian Golf Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
