SAN ANTONIO, Texas – True freshman Nick Rodriguez fired back-to-back career best rounds to pace the North Texas men’s golf team at the opening day of the Lone Star Invite. Rodriguez shot consecutive rounds of 1-under par 71 and is tied for 10th place after 36 holes of play.
The Mean Green sits in a logjam after the first two rounds of play, tied for seventh place with four different teams. North Texas shot rounds of 292 and 291 and has a score of 593 after two rounds of play at 7-over par. No. 20 New Mexico holds a nine stroke lead on the field heading into the final day.
Rodriguez had nine total birdies on the day and he is five strokes off the lead heading into the final rounds. It is the first time this season Rodriguez has shot under par.
Jason Roets and Gonzalo Rubio both had identical days with opening rounds of 74 and a second round of 73. The pair is tied for 38th place after two rounds at 3-over par 147. Juan Munoz is one stroke behind at 4-over par 148 after shooting a 74 in the first and second round of play. He is tied for 46th place. Cory Churchman is tied for 66th place with a score of 151 after the first two rounds of play.
