LAREDO, Tex. (3/25/05) Junior Andreas Kali fired back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 to lead the North Texas men’s golf team at the first day of the Border Olympics from the Laredo Country Club.
Kali is in the top 10 after the first day of competition after firing his best two rounds of the spring season and posting a two-round score of 144.
“Andreas was really good today and was as consistent as he’s been all year,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “We still need to come out and make some shots because this is a very talented field and we can play better”.
As a team North Texas shot a 299 in the first round and a 293 in the second round and is tied for ninth after the first day.
Junior Jason Lindgren had the best round of the day for North Texas with a second round score of 70, 2-under par. Lindgren rebounded in the second round following an opening round score of 78, and is currently 6-over par, at 148 after the first day.
Freshman Anthony Broussard opened the tournament with a first round 1-under par 71. Broussard struggled in the second round with an 80 and sits at 151 after the first day.
Raul Lemus fired an even-par round of 72 in his second round of play and has a two-round score of 154.
Reid McPherson shot rounds of 78 and 79 respectively and is at 157 after the first day.
The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round and a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
