Mean Green Finish In Fifth Place

AUSTIN, Texas - Despite the windy conditions, it was a steady final round for the No. 36 North Texas men's golf team as they finished in fifth place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. Third-round scores were high and the Mean Green shot a final round of 294, two shots behind No. 16 Texas A&M, but 13 strokes ahead of No. 39 Texas Tech and 17 in front No. 38 Wake Forest.

No. 1 Texas ran away from the field on their home course, with the only under par round of the day and the tournament to win.

Rodolfo Cazaubon had the best round for North Texas at even-par 71 in the final round. He had four birdies, along with four bogeys, to go along with 10 pars to notch a 14th place finish for the tournament. He wasn't the only player in the top-20 as Ty Spinella carved out a 20th place finish after a final round of 76. Spinella finished at 6-over par 219 for the tournament.

Carlos Ortiz and Jason Roets were just one shot back at 220 and just missed out on a top-25 place after rounds of 74 and 73. Roets bounced back after opening at 3-over par on the front nine to close 1-under par.

Curtis Donahoe shot a third-round of 77 and ended tied for 36th place. It is the sixth top-5 finish of the season for the Mean Green and fifth straight. North Texas has been in the top-5 of every tournament except one this season.

North Texas is right back in action next week at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego on March 22-23.
