TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The best round of the day has the North Texas men's golf team on the verge of scoring a major upset after two rounds of the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Mean Green shot a 289 in the second round, has three players in the top 15, and is only four shots behind the clubhouse leader 11th ranked Florida State heading into the final round.
North Texas is at 12-over par through two rounds, tied with North Carolina for third place, while Florida State is at 8-over par and South Carolina, ranked 9th in the nation, is at 9-over par after 36 holes.
North Texas is out in front of Vanderbilt, 34th ranked Arkansas, 43rd ranked Baylor, and Mississippi State after two rounds.
Senior Dustin Thompson shot the only round in the 60's in the field with a 2-under par 69 as he climbed the leaderboard and is tied for third-place heading into the final round. Thompson had six birdies on the day and is even-par 142 after two rounds.
Freshman Rodolfo Cazaubon and Carlos Ortiz continued to shine against the top flight competition as Cazaubon is tied with Thompson at 142 after a second round of 73. Cazaubon had three birdies on the day.
Thompson and Cazaubon are five shots behind Jack Fields of North Carolina who leads the way but ahead of the top ranked golfer in the country in Brooks Koepka of Florida State.
Ortiz posted a 2-over par 73 and he is tied for 12th place after two rounds at 145.
Peter Fallon rebounded from a difficult opening round with a 2-over par 74 while Ben Hargis shot his second straight 77 of the tournament.
