Kincaid And Thompson In The Top 10 After The First Day

LAREDO, ­­Texas (3/13/09) In a star-studded field Clarke Kincaid and Dustin Thompson posted top-10 finishes after the first 36 holes to lead the North Texas men’s golf team at the Border Olympics. Kincaid is tied for fifth place with an even-par score of 144 and Thompson is one shot back with a 145 and tied for 10th place.


“Clarke and Dustin really carried us out there today in really difficult conditions,” said coach Brad Stracke. “Hopefully the rest of the group can pick up and make a run at a top five finish tomorrow in a field like this.”


The Mean Green fired a 299 and a 298 to post a score of 597. North Texas is alone in 10th place in a field of 16 teams but just five shots separate the Mean Green from Vanderbilt, Washington State, Lamar, and Notre Dame.


Kincaid fired back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 while Thompson posted his best round of the year with a 2-under par 70 in the first round. Nathan Sheen carded a 76 and a 74 to shoot a 150 through two rounds. Harris Graham shot an opening round of 82 but rebounded with a second round of 88. Michel Lee struggled throughout the day with an 81 and an 84.


The final round of the Border Olympics begins tomorrow morning at 8:45 a.m.
