RUSTON, La. - Rodolfo Cazaubon put on another dominating performance and the No. 32 North Texas men's golf team won the Argent Financial Classic by four strokes over No. 15 LSU. Cazaubon, who trailed by four strokes coming into the round, shot a 5-under par 67 to capture his third individual title of the season as North Texas won for the first time this year.
The Mean Green started the final round tied with No. 15 LSU, but North Texas took the lead early and never looked back. North Texas shot the lowest round of the field at 3-under par 285 to win by four shots.
It is the first win over a top-15 team this season for North Texas and it comes on the heels of tying three top-15 teams at the John Hayt Classic and knocking off No. 22 Tennessee.
Cazaubon, ranked No. 36 in the nation, played nearly flawless golf on the day with six birdies and just one bogey on the day. He finished at 9-under par with a 207. Cazaubon, playing the best golf of his career, has finished either first or second in four of the last five tournaments.
Jason Roets tied for his lowest finish of the year at 3-under par as he finished alone in third place. Roets shot 2-under par in the third round as he notched five birdies on the day. He was one of just four players to post a score in red figures for the tournament.
Carlos Ortiz also had a top-five finish with a final round of 1-under par 71 to move into a tie for fifth place. It is the fourth top-10 finish of the year for Ortiz. Curtis Donahoe, playing as an individual, notched his first top-10 finish of the year with a score of 4-over par 220 to finish in a tie for 10th place. Marco Scarola shot a final round of 80 and Gonzalo Rubio a third round of 77.
North Texas is back in action this weekend as they play in The Schenkel Invitational on March 15-17.
