Ortiz In First Place After 18 Holes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore Carlos Ortiz is looking to begin his spring break with a bang. He is tied for the lead after 18 holes of the Seminole Intercollegiate and the No. 31 North Texas men's golf team is alone in fifth place after day one.

Ortiz fired a 3-under par 68 and is atop the leaderboard with Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas for the top spot.

The Mean Green shot an 8-over par 292 in the opening round but is only five strokes behind second place Florida State. No. 18 Arkansas holds the overall lead after a first round of 277.

Ortiz began his day on No. 10, started 1-over par with a bogey on 11, but after that he carded four birdies and 12 pars to finish at 3-under par.

Rodolfo Cazaubon is tied for 17th place after a 2-over par 73. He had an adventurous round with four birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey. Curtis Donahoe is two strokes back after a 75 while Josh Jones had a 76 in his opening round. Ty Spinella had a tough afternoon with an 81 on his opening round.
