LAFAYETTE, La. (3/11/03) -- Top 20 finishes by junior Thomas Kulcak and senior Freddy Espericueta helped lift the North Texas men's golf team to a tie for sixth place Tuesday in the Louisiana Classic.
Kulcak finished at even par at the part 72, 7,002-yard Oakbourne Country Club course, registering rounds of 76-69-71--216 to end in a tie for 15th place. Espericueta was one stroke back at 217 and tied for 17th after finishing with scores of 72-70-75 for the two-day tournament.
Tulsa's David Inglis won the individual championship with scores of 70-67-71--208, beating Baylor's Ryan Baca and Texas A&M's Stephen Reed by three strokes. SMU won the team championship with a three-round total of 858. North Texas scored rounds of 299-287-293--879 for a tie for sixth place in the 15 team field.
Also for the Mean Green, junior Brad Gibson placed in a tie for 32 at 76-71-75--222, and junior Zach Atkinson and Brad Besler both finished tied for 61st with three-round totals of 228.
