Churchman And Cotton Lead NT On Final Day With Top-15 Finishes
Mean Green Fall Into A Tie For Ninth Place
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Cory Churchman and Michael Cotton both had top-15 finishes but it wasn’t enough to prevent the North Texas men’s golf team from slipping into a tie for ninth place at the John Hayt Invitational.
The Mean Green as a team, facing off against the most talent field of the year with eight top-50 teams, shot a 10-over par in the third-round and fell into a tie with No. 48 Liberty.
Churchman finished in a tie for sixth place while Cotton finished tied for 12th place. Churchman got off to a very slow start at 4-over par after two holes, but bounced back to shoot 2-under the final 16 holes and post a 2-over par 74. Cotton had three birdies on the day and an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole.
Ian Snyman was 2-under par after 12 holes, but back-to-back double bogey’s set him back and he finished with a 5-over par. He finished tied for 59th. Thomas Rosenmueller shot a third-round of 3-over par 75 while Colin Pearson posted a 5-over 77.
No. 13 Oklahoma State ran away from the field with a final round of 11-under par to win the team title.
North Texas returns to action March 7-8 at the Colleton River Invite.
