Freshmen Lead The Way For North Texas After The First Day

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (2/28/05) Freshman Anthony Broussard paced the North Texas men’s golf team after the first day of the Roadrunner Intercollegiate at the Oak Hills Country Club.

Brossard fired a second round 1-over par 72 on his way to a 3-over par day following an opening round of 74 to lead the Mean Green. Broussard sits at 3-over par 146 for the tournament.

The Mean Green as a team struggled in the first round with a 304 through the first 18 holes. North Texas recovered with a second round 299 to finish the first two rounds at 603 after 36 holes.

“We didn’t play as well as we are capable today,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “Anthony (Broussard) played well and he continues to be a real pleasant surprise. We need to come out and play a lot better as a team and get ourselves in a better position”.

Freshman Raul Lemus posted the second best day for North Texas as he fired a two-round score of 150 that included a second round of 74. Andrea Kali was three shots behind Lemus after two rounds with a score of 153.

The final round of play begins tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
