SPRING, Tex. (2//7/07) Junior Austin Welch regained his all-conference form with a top-10 finish at the All-American Golf Classic from the Cypresswood Golf Club. Welch shot a final round of 1-under par 71 and posted a two-round score of 2-over par 218. He had two straight rounds of 71 and was tied for ninth place individually
North Texas as a team slipped to 10th place with a final round of 297 to shoot a three-round score of 892. Kansas held off No. 3 Lamar to win the team championship as the field was tightly packed from the beginning.
“We didn’t finish where I wanted to but I’m still optimistic and did see some good signs from a couple of players,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson.
Junior Cole Howard closed his tournament out strong with a final round of 1-over par 73 and was tied for 17th place with a score of 221. Anthony Broussard fired his best round of the tournament with a score of 76 while freshman Dustin Thompson and Harris Graham had their difficulties in the third round. Thompson shot a 77 while Graham posted a 79.
The Mean Green is back in action on March 5-6 at the Louisiana Classic.
