HOUSTON, Tex. (2/27/06) Sophomore Austin Welch fired a career-low round of 1-under par 71 to lead the North Texas men’s golf team at the first day of the All-American Golf Classic from the Tradition of Cypresswood Country Club.
Sophomore Anthony Broussard also had a solid opening day with an even round of 72 followed up with a 1-over par 73 in the second round. Broussard is tied for 14th place after the first two rounds at 145.
“I thought that Austin played a great first round and Anthony had a solid day for us,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “We can still play a lot better and need to be more consistent”.
Welch shot a second round of 4-over par 76 and is tied for 23rd at 147 after the first day.
Andreas Kali and Raul Lemus both had two-round scores of 160 while Ben Smock fired a two-round score of 169.
North Texas is in 11th place out of 13 teams after shooting an opening round score of 303 and a second round score of 308.
The final round of the All-American Golf Classic begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
