PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - After the second round of play, the No. 33 North Texas men's golf team in locked in a tight battle with three teams ranked in the top-15 in the nation after 36 holes of John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. The Mean Green shot the third lowest round of the day and shot up the leaderboard into a four-way tie for fourth place with No. 7 Florida, No. 12 LSU, and No. 14 Arkansas. North Texas had a second round score of 294 and has a two-round mark of 587.
Playing at the famed Sawgrass Country Club, senior Rodolfo Cazaubon is leading the way for North Texas after a second round of even-par 72. Cazaubon is tied for ninth place after a steady second round. He notched 14 pars and had one birdie and an eagle-3 on the par-5 18th hole. Cazaubon, ranked 40th in the nation individually, is 1-under par for the tournament at 143.
Jason Roets had the lowest round of the day for North Texas at 1-under par 71. Roets climbed into a tie for 28th place. He started strong with birdies on the first two holes of the day then fell back until closing with two more birdies in his final three holes.
Carlos Ortiz is tied for 20th after a second round of 75. Ortiz was 3-under par after the first nine holes, but shot 6-over on the final nine and dropped to 3-over for the day.
Marco Scarola is tied for 50th place following a second round of 76 and Curtis Donahoe is tied for 67th shot a second round of 77.
No. 25 North Florida, the host of the tournament, is running away from the field with a score of 17-under par as they lead their closest competition, No. 11 Duke, by 12 strokes.
