Snyman Named C-USA Men's Golfer Of The Week
UNT Junior Earns Third Career Nod
IRVING - North Texas junior Ian Snyman was named Conference USA men's Golfer of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Snyman got his spring season off to a hot start over the weekend in Humble, Texas, finishing the weekend in a tie for 11th place at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. North Texas finished seventh out of 18 teams that comprised a loaded field, including five top-50 teams. Snyman also shot several strokes better than Baylor's Braden Bailey, the nation's fifth-ranked golfer.
The Bellville, South Africa, native had 12 birdies over the three-round tournament and stayed consistent throughout the weekend, shooting a 69-71-70-210 to finish the tournament 6-under par.
"Ian played solid and performed at a high level at the Golf Club of Houston this past week," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "I'm proud of the way he practices and carries himself every day of the week."
This is Snyman's third time to win the C-USA Golfer of the Week award and his first since April 6, 2016.
The Mean Green return to action on Sunday and Monday in Tucson, Arizona, at the N.I.T., which will be played at the Omni Tucson National's Catalina course.
