PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico- Senior Anthony Broussard scorched the Flamingo’s Golf Course in the final round and shot a 2-under par 70 to pace the North Texas men’s golf team at the NT/GADO Classic. Broussard had the fifth best round of the day and shot up the leaderboard and posted a top-20 finish. Broussard ended the tournament with a three-round score of 4-over par 220.
As a team the Mean Green shot a final round of 296 and finished in 8th place. Louisiana-Lafayette won the team title, leading wire-to-wire and shooting a three-round score of 848.
“There are some things that we can build on coming out of this tournament,” said head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “Anthony played really well today but we just need to keep building and getting better each tournament as we move forward”.
Broussard finished the tournament with the second best numbers in par-5 scoring, shooting 6-under on the par-5’s.
Dustin Thompson was two-shots behind Broussard with a three-round score of 222. Thompson played some of the most consistent golf of the tournament, finishing second among the field with 41 pars.
Cole Howard had a three-round score of 223 after a final round of 77. Senior Ben Smock posted his best round of the tournament with a 1-over par 73 and posted a 224. Raul Lemus struggled in the final round shooting an 83 to finish with a 236.
North Texas is back in action next week at the All-American Classic in Houston, Tex.
