SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In the first test of the season for the No. 28 North Texas men's golf team they finished in third place at the Oak Hills Invitational and had four players place in the top-15.
The Mean Green shot a final round of 292 and finished at 2-under par 850 as No. 20 Texas Tech captured the title with a 15-under par 837. No. 49 Oklahoma just edged out the Mean Green by one stroke to finish in second place with an 849.
North Texas topped No. 40 Tulsa by five strokes and No. 50 Baylor by 27 shots. Sophomore Ty Spinella led the way for North Texas with his best finish of the season after a final round of 72. Spinella finished tied for sixth place with a three-round score of 2-under par 211.
A trio of Mean Green golfers finished tied for 15th. Josh Jones, Rodolfo Cazaubon, and Carlos Ortiz all finished at 2-over par 215 for the tournament. Jones shot a final round of 72 while Cazaubon and Ortiz shot 74 in the final round.
Marco Scarola narrowly missed out on a top-20 finish with a final round of 75 and a score of 218 to finish in 26th place. Freshman Peter Eiler, playing as an individual, posted a third-round of 79.
North Texas returns to action on March 4-6 at the USF Invitational.
