Freshmen Have North Texas In The Hunt In Memphis
Mean Green In Sixth Place, Only Seven Strokes Back Of The Lead
MEMPHIS - Two true freshman playing in their first collegiate tournament have the North Texas men's golf team in sixth place after the first two rounds of play at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Ian Snyman and Thomas Rosenmueller are both in the top-20, with Snyman tied for fourth-place at 3-under par after 36 holes.
Snyman shot an opening round of round of even-par 72, but cut that down to a 69 in the second round on the strength of six birdies in the second round. He showed his mettle too in the opening round.
After 14 holes, Snyman was 1-under par, but triple bogeyed the par-4 15th hole. He bounced right back to birdie the 16th hole and the 18th hole to finish at even-par. Snyman is four shots off the lead heading into the final round.
Rosenmueller is tied for 17th place. He opened with a 2-under par round of 70 that had three birdies and only one bogey. He slipped a bit in the second round with a 3-over par 75.
Cory Churchman is tied for 27th place following scores of 72 and 75. Michael Cotton is in 38th place after posting scores of 74 and 75 while Colin Pearson is in 61st place after shooting a 73 and 82 on the day. Alejando Villasana, playing as an individual, shot a 79 and 75 on the day.
North Texas as a team shot a first-round score of 1-under par 287, but dropped back with a second-round of 284. The Mean Green is at 5-over par, but only seven shots behind the lead in a tightly packed field.
