Slow Start For North Texas At Windon Memorial

Sept. 21, 2014

SKOKIE, Ill – It was a rough start to the Windon Memorial for the North Texas men’s golf team after the first day of the tournament. Facing some of the best teams in the nation, the Mean Green is 26-over par after the first two rounds and is in 15th place after the opening day. After shooting a first-round of 287, NT slipped with a second-round of 299. Despite the struggles, only 12 strokes separate NT from 10 teams in the field.

Jason Roets and Cory Churchman lead the way for North Texas as they are tied for 26th place after two-rounds.

Roets opened with a 1-under par 69, thanks in part to an eagle 3 on the par-5 13th hole. He shot a second round of 4-over 74 and is 3-over for the tournament. Churchman was steady throughout the day with an opening round of even-par 70 and a 3-over par 73. He had five birdies on the day.

Alejandro Villasana is tied for 60th place after shooting a 72 and 76 on the day. Juan Munoz and Nick Rodriguez never got on track in either round as Munoz shot back-to-back 76’s and Rodriguez had a 76 and a second-round of 77.
