Mean Green End The Northern Intercollegiate In Ninth Place
Munoz Notches Top-20 Finish To Open The Season
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The North Texas men’s golf team shot a final round of 306 and finished in ninth place at the Northern Collegiate. Juan Munoz notched a top-25 finish for NT in the season opener for the Mean Green as he finished in a tie for 18th place.
The Mean Green could never work their way up the leaderboard as the Rich Harvest Farms course was unforgiving with only two players finishing in red figures for the tournament.
Munoz had a roller coaster of a round, as he was 3-over on his first nine holes. On his 10th hole, Munoz had a quadruple bogey 8, but on the following hole he bounced back with an eagle 3 on the par-5 second hole. He followed that up with another birdie and salvaged the back nine in 1-over par. He had five birdies and one eagle on the day.
Jason Roets notched three birdies and was 3-over par on the day, but couldn’t quite crack the top-25 as he finished in a tie for 27th place.
Andrew Hudson and Julien Marot each finished tied for 44th. Hudson had four birdies during his round while Marot had three birdies. Marot had a solid round going through the first nine, at 1-over par, but he fell prey to the first hole the same way Munoz did, with a quintuple bogey 9.
Cory Churchman finished tied for 48th place, one stroke behind Marot and Hudson. Virginia surged past Winthrop to capture the overall team title.
North Texas is back in action in the greater Chicago area in two weeks as they compete in The Windon Memorial Classic.
