Mean Green's Run To The Finals Comes Up Short
NT Ends The NCAA Regional In Ninth Place
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The magical run for the North Texas men's golf team came to an end as they came up just shy in their bid to reach the NCAA Finals. The Mean Green finished in ninth place at the New Haven Regional as they were unable to inch their way into the top-five to advance to play for the NCAA Championship.
NT shot a third-round of 2-over par and six shots back of No. 7 LSU, who roared into the fifth spot with a 12-under par final round. South Florida, San Diego State, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt and LSU were the five teams to advance.
Seniors Jason Roets and Juan Munoz, playing their final rounds for the Mean Green, led the way as both players shot a 1-under par on the day. Roets finished tied for 17th place in the regional while Munoz ended in a tie for 22nd place.
Alejandro Villasana was 2-over on the day and finished tied for 53rd while freshman Michael Cotton was 4-over on the round and tied for 49th place. Cory Churchman shot a final round of 72 and finished tied for 58th place.
NT finished the regional only three strokes behind Ohio State, five behind No. 41 Iowa and No. 45 NC State and six behind LSU.
The Conference USA Champions were ranked No. 69 in the nation heading into the regional and knocked off No. 29 Arkansas.
