Snyman's Second-Round 74 Drops Him Down Leaderboard

May 15, 2018

NORMAN, Okla. - North Texas junior Ian Snyman was often on the brink in Tuesday’s second round of the NCAA Norman Regional but could rarely break through on a day that saw him par eight of his last nine holes while other golfers were making moves past him on the leaderboard.

Snyman shot a 2-over 74 and is now 1-over par for the tournament with one round remaining on Wednesday. He enters the final round at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in a tie for 25th place with four other golfers.

Snyman heads into Day 3 on Wednesday hoping to make a big move, as he tries to qualify for the NCAA finals May 25-30 in Stillwater, Okla. To make it to the finals, Snyman, who is competing as an individual after receiving an at-large bid, must finish as the top individual not on one of the top five teams.

Through two rounds, Snyman currently sits four shots behind Virginia’s Ashton Poole, who fired a second-round 68, for the top individual not on one of the top five teams after Round 2.

“We will continue to go through the process and good things will happen tomorrow,” UNT coach Brad Stracke.

Snyman shot a first-round 71 on Monday and was in a tie for ninth place entering Wednesday’s second round. He will begin the third and final round Wednesday with a 9:31 a.m. tee time from Hole 1.
