Mean Green Surge Into The Lead At C-USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Tex.  -- The North Texas men's golf team roared into the lead of the Conference USA Championship as senior's Jason Roets and Juan Munoz sent the Mean Green past No. 30 UAB for the overall team lead.

Roets continues to lead the tournament despite shooting a 2-over par 74 while Munoz posted an even par round of 72 to move into a tie for fourth place, only two strokes behind Roets. Sophomore Cory Churchman shot the third lowest round of the day at 2-under par 70 to help propel the Mean Green on the day.

North Texas shot a second round of 3-over par 291 to wrestle the top spot away from UAB, who slipped into a tie for second with Southern Miss at 1-under par for the tournament.  The Mean Green hold a six stroke edge over UAB and Southern heading into the final round of stroke play tomorrow.

NT is perfectly positioned to advance to match play, which will see the top-four teams in stroke play battle it out for the conference title on Wednesday.

UTEP holds the final spot into match play, leading Charlotte by six strokes but trailing North Texas by 14.

Churchman moved up into a tie for eighth place, while Alejandro Villasana is tied for 15th place and Michael Cotton is tied for 41st place.
