EDMOND, Okla. – Freshman Nick Rodriguez and Andrew Hudson paced the North Texas men’s golf team in the first round of the C-USA Conference Championship. The pair is in the top-15 after the first round and the Mean Green is in sixth place after the first day after posting a score of 296.
The Mean Green is going after its third straight conference title, but has to come-from-behind as they trail clubhouse leader Tulsa by eight strokes after the first round. Tulsa leads No. 16 UAB by two shots, Charlotte by three, then MTSU and Rice by five shots.
The Oak Tree Country Club was unforgiving as only two players broke par on the day. Rodriguez is tied for 10th place after posting a 2-over par 72 while Hudson is one shot back at 3-over par 73 and tied for 14th place. Hudson had a strong finish with consecutive birdies on 17 and 18.
Juan Munoz is tied for 28th place after a 5-over par 75. Munoz was 5-over after nine holes, but played the back nine holes at even-par.
Cory Churchman is one shot back at 6-over par 76 while Jason Roets is at 13-over par after the first day.
