TEXARKANA – Freshman Thomas Rosenmueller fired a one-under 71 to move into a tie for third place helping the North Texas men’s golf team sit fourth after round two at the Conference USA Championship Tuesday afternoon at the Texarkana Country Club.
The Mean Green battled to hold a top four position heading into the final round after shooting a 299 team score. North Texas (15-over par) is just six shots back of MTSU (nine-over par) and LA Tech (nine-over par) for second place. No. 38 UAB continues to lead the tournament and will enter the final round of stroke play with a six-shot advantage on second place.
Rosenmueller kept the team alive thanks to a stellar round of 71, including five birdies and a stretch of three-straight birdies on the back-9 on holes 15, 16, and 17. He has a two-round score of 144 and is one-shot back of second place and seven shots back of leader Taylor Eyster from UAB.
Junior Cory Churchman sits in a tie for 12th after a second round five-over par 77. Freshamn Ian Snyman is one-shot back in a tie for 17th after a second round 73 (one-over par). Snyman was cruising alone until three bogeys on the final five holes cost the freshman an under-par round.
Sophomore Michael Cotton shot a second round six-over par 78 but bounced back with a solid back-9 score of 37. Cotton is tied for 35th and was able to salvage his round thanks to two birdies. Junior Alejandro Villasana finished the scoring for North Texas with a tough second round score of 81 and is tied for 48th after two rounds.
