Mean Green Finish Second Round Strong At Aggie Invite
North Texas Improved Its Team Score By 15 Strokes In Round Two In College Station
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - North Texas rebounded from a difficult first round, to close day one of the Aggie Invitational from Traditions Golf Club in College Station Saturday, improving by 15 strokes as a team in the second round. Senior Cory Churchman fired a team-low 69 in the second round to help drive the turnaround. Sophomore Thomas Rosenmueller paced the Mean Green through the first two rounds, with a combined score of 2-over par, placing him in a tie for 19th individually. North Texas sits 11th place as a team at 19-over par.
"I feel like the team has grown, matured and learned a lot about their own games this year," head coach Brad Stracke said. "We have had four sophomores play in the top five the majority of the year. I hope we get to play the final round tomorrow so we can make a run, but the forecast is not favorable. Thomas had anouther solid day against a great field. Cory had a nice second round as well. Andrew Hudson posted a 2-under for the first 36 holes and I was happy to see him play well.""
Rosenmueller was steady and consistent throughout the course of his day, carding 1-over 73's in each of his two rounds of play. He birdied 10 times on the day, six of which came in the first round, and birdied the fifth and 15th holes in both rounds of play.
Churchman struggled late in the first round, finishing at 7-over, after his 79. He entered his back nine at even-par, but a pair of double bogeys did him in. It was however, a tale of two rounds for the senior. He was excellent in round two, firing a 3-under 69 to vault himself into a tie for 28th individually at 4-over. His second round performance helped turn the tide for the Mean Green. He birdied six times on the day, four of which came in round two.
Senior Andrew Hudson, who was playing as an individual, had a tremndous day one, finishing at 2-under over the first two rounds, after firing a 69 in round one.
The Mean Green are slated to be back in action Sunday, weather permitting, for the third and final round, which is set to tee off at 1:50 p.m. CT. Fans can follow along with live results, courtesy of Golfstat.
