Mean Green Shoot 5-Under Par On Final Day To Climb To Fifth

SAN ANTOINO, Texas – A trio of Mean Green golfers put up red figures at the final round of the Lone Star Invite to power NT to its lowest score of the event and a fifth place finish. Cory Churchman, Juan Munoz and Gonzalo Rubio all were under par as North Texas had the third best score of the day at 5-under par to finish in a tie for fifth place. 

Churchman had the best day at 3-under par with a 69, while Munoz was 2-under par and Rubio 1-under par. Freshman Nick Rodriguez led North Texas for the tournament after a final round of 1-over par 73. Rodriguez had his best finish of the season at 1-under par 215, to finish in a tie for 14th place.

Churchman roared up the leaderboard with another final round charge to finish in a tie for 30th place. Last week, Churchman posted a final round of 4-under par 68 at the Schenkel Invitational. Today he had four birdies, one bogey and 13 pars for a 3-under par 69. Munoz shot a 2-under 70 with four birdies on the day to finish in a tie for 26th place.

Munoz was joined by Rubio in a tie for 26th place at 2-over par 218 after shooting 1-under on the day. Jason Roets slipped to 2-over par 74 on the day after starting out at 3-under par after his first two holes thanks to an eagle 3 on the par-5 seventh hole. He finished in a tie for 43rd place.

No. 20 New Mexico held on to win the team championship at 16-under par. NT shot an 866 for the tournament, 2-over par.



The Mean Green is back in action on April 5-6 at the Aggie Invitational.
