SAN ANTONIO -- Junior Cory Churchman finished in a tie for fourth place helping the North Texas men’s golf team to a third-place overall finish on the final day Tuesday at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational.
North Texas fired a third-round 295 (seven-over par) as a team to finish in third-place seven shots back of second-place Rice and 13 shots from No. 50 New Mexico who took home the team title.
Churchman shot a final round one-over par 73 finishing with a three round total of 218 (70-75-73). Freshman Thomas Rosenmueller had the lowest final round for the Mean Green firing an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for 16th. Rosenmueller started the day with three bogeys after eight holes before catching fire on the back-9 with two birdies and an eagle two on the par-4 14th hole that measured 314 yards.
Sophomore Michael Cotton finished in a tied for 22nd place after shooting a final round four-over par 76 and a three-day total of 225 (75-74-76). Cotton had four birdies in the final round but six bogeys and a double hurt his chances.
Freshman Ian Snyman and Junior Alejandro Villasana each finished in a tie for 34th place with three-round totals of 228. Villasana had his best round of the tournament with a final round two-over par 74 and Snyman shot a final round five-over par 77.
Sophomore Ross Martens, playing as an individual, shot a final round 81 to finish his three-day total at 241 in a tie for 81st place (83-77-81).
The Mean Green will have a couple weeks to prepare for the Aggie Invitational April 2-3 held in College Station.
