STATESBORO, Ga. – A slow start has put the North Texas men’s golf team behind the field of six top-50 teams after the first round of The Schenkel Invitational. The Mean Green shot a 21-over par 309 in the opening round and sits in 15th place after the first day. The event features four teams ranked in the top-15 in the nation.
Jason Roets, who has posted three straight top-10 finishes, has the lowest score after 18 holes for NT. Roets is tied for 57th place after a 4-over par 76. The highlight of the day for Roets was an eagle 3 on the par-5 seventh hole.
One stroke behind Roets is freshman Cory Churchman who is tied for 68th after shooting a 77. A trio of NT golfers, Julien Marot, Andrew Hudson and Juan Munoz shot opening rounds of 78 and are tied for 73rd.
No. 14 UAB holds a one stroke lead over Georgia Southern after the opening day at 3-under par.
