Freshman Cotton Paces North Texas In The Second Round
Mean Green Tied For Eighth Place At John Hayt Invite
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The North Texas men’s golf team cut five strokes off their opening round score but slipped into a tie for eighth place after the second round at the John Hayt Invitational. The Mean Green shot a score of 302 and moved into a tie with Jacksonville for eighth place. NT remains in front of No. 40 UAB by three shots and No. 31 East Carolina by 22 strokes.
Freshman Michael Cotton paced North Texas on the day with a score of 2-over par 74. Cotton played the back nine holes at 1-under par and he posted three birdies on the day to move into a tie for 28th place.
Jason Roets is tied with Cotton for 28th place following his second round of 4-over par 76. Juan Munoz moved up into a tie for 40th place after shooting a second round of 75. He had three birdies on his day. Cory Churchman and Alejandro Villasana both shot 5-over par scores of 77 in the second round. Churchman is tied for 45th place while Villasana is tied for 55th place.
No. 8 Texas surged into the overall team lead with a score of 8-under par. They carry a three-stroke lead over No. 29 North Florida heading into the final round.
