Churchman Sizzles In Florida With A Career Best 67
Mean Green Tied For Sixth Place After Two Rounds
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla – Cory Churchman surged up the leaderboard with a career-low round of 5-under par 67 to move within striking distance of the title at the John Hayt Invitational. Churchman posted seven birdies on the day and is alone in third place after two rounds. He enters the final round only four strokes off the lead.
The leaderboard tightened up in the second round as NT is tied for sixth place with No. 23 UCLA and No. 43 East Carolina after 36 holes. The Mean Green shot a second-round score of 297 and are only six strokes away from third place going into the final round.
The field, which is loaded with eight teams ranked in the top-50, has seven teams separated by seven shots. No. 13 Oklahoma State surged to the top of the field with a 7-under par score to lead by four strokes.
Churchman began the day with a birdie, then had a stretch of five birdies over six holes to put him at 5-under par.
Michael Cotton was 3-over par on the day with a 75 and is tied for 14th place after two rounds. Ian Snyman shot a 6-over par 78 while Colin Pearson was 5-over on the day. Pearson had three birdies and an eagle in his round. Thomas Rosenmueller struggled to find any rhythm as he posted a 10-over par score of 82.
