PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – A second straight solid outing for the North Texas men’s golf team saw the Mean Green knock off two teams ranked in the top-50, including the No.27 team in the country at the John Hayt Invitational.
Led by Jason Roets, the Mean Green finished in fourth place, behind only three top-15 teams in the nation, and beat No. 47 Tennessee by 14 strokes and No. 27 Liberty by 21 shots.
Roets notched his second straight top-10 performance despite a final round of 3-over 75. Roets ended at 3-under par for the tournament and tied for sixth place.
Juan Munoz led the charge for the Mean Green in the final round with a 2-under par 70 and as he finished at 2-over for the tournament. Munoz played the back nine holes at 4-under par, including an eagle 3 on the 11th hole. Gonzalo Rubio shot a third-round of 2-over par 74 and ended in a tie for 27th place.
Freshman Cory Churchman fired a final round of 2-over par 74 and Andrew Hudson had a 77. Hudson finished tied for 58th place and Churchman tied for 66th place.
North Texas shot a third-round score of 293 and bested 11 of the teams in the field of 15.
The Mean Green is back in action next week at the La Tech Invitational on March 3-4.
