Mean Green Conclude Action At SunTrust Gator Invitational
Sophomore Ian Snyman Led The Way Again For The Mean Green, Finishing Tied For 22nd
GAINESVILLE, Florida - Sophomore Ian Snyman led the way for the Mean Green in the third and final round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida. Snyman fired a 1-over par 71. North Texas finished in a tie for 12th place, at a combined 37-over par.
"The team was focused this week, but just didn't perform up to expectations," head coach Brad Stracke said Sunday afternoon. "When you play a top schedule like we do, you have to bring your best every week. I'm glad we get right back into action next week at Sawgrass Country Club."
Snyman finished in a tie for 22nd individually, and were it not for bogeys on each of his final three holes, the South African native would have tied for his second-best collegiate round. He birdied No. 16 and No. 18, and was at 2-under for the majority of the day. He finished his tournament at 6-over par, and Sunday marked his best round of the weekend.
Senior Cory Churchman shot a 3-over 73 on Sunday, which was the second-best round by a Mean Green golfer on the day. He birdied on three occasions, on the fourth, seventh and 16th holes, respectively.
Sophomores Jordan Sanders, Thomas Rosenmueller and Devin Jackson rounded out the competition for the Mean Green, carding a 3-over 73, a 5-over 75 and 8-over 78, respectively to conclude action on Sunday. Sanders, a Texas Tech transfer, saved his best round for last, in his first tournament at North Texas.
The Mean Green return to action next week, as they open the The Hayt, which will take place Friday, February 24, through Sunday, February 26 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, at the Sawgrass Country Club.
