DENTON - The University of North Texas athletics department generated over $120,000 in its first year of beer sales at Apogee Stadium, with net revenue to the department totaling nearly $46,000.

"Overall we are very pleased," Director of Athletics Rick Villarreal said. "For the first year out we experienced some challenges in the process, but, in the final analysis, I believe we were successful in providing an additional amenity to our constituents without affecting the safety or the overall fan experience. The decision to expand sales to men's and women's basketball games was a result of our ability to successfully implement sales for football."

The athletics department contracted with a vendor certified by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to facilitate the sale of beer at the stadium. The agreement with the vendor is that the athletics department receives a percentage of the vendor's net profit. For all six home football games, the vendor sold a combined total of 21,388 units for an average of 3,565 per game. The average attendance for games was 19,271.

"We have several takeaways that we can implement going into next season, including engaging our patrons to gather their input on possible enhancements to make the experience even better," Villarreal said.
