New Orleans (12-11-04) - The North Texas football team upped the tempo today, running a full speed practice in preparation for Tuesday’s match up with Southern Mississippi.
The Mean Green worked out at the New Orleans Zephyrs practice facility in shoulder pads and helmets, and ran the first contact drills since arriving for the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl.
“I thought we looked crisp this morning, which is a good indication that they are taking this seriously heading into this game,” said head coach Darrell Dickey. “We were able to get in a little contact today and we were able to fully implement our game plan against the scout teams.”
The offense ran its patented play action passing game to perfection as quarterback Scott Hall hooked up with nearly every Mean Green receiver. Hall said he likes the intensity of the practices so far, and feels the team will be ready for Tuesday.
“Today’s practice went good. We were able to work at full speed and I think everyone is focused for Southern Miss,” Hall said.
Dickey rewarded the team’s diligence today by skipping the usual post-practice sprints and allowing the team to head straight to Drago’s Seafood Restaurant for lunch. Tonight the Mean Green will get a chance to meet the Golden Eagles at a team party at Six Flags.
“Last year, it was a lot of fun going on all the rides at Six Flags, so we’re all looking forward to it,” said linebacker Phillip Graves. “Not having to run after practice was great, but lunch at Drago’s was even better.”
The Mean Green will return to practice tomorrow morning at the New Orleans Saints facilities and will return to the Superdome for a walk through practice Monday afternoon.
