DENTON - True freshman Nate Brooks and redshirt freshman Chris Miles were named to the 2015 Conference USA Football All-Freshman team Tuesday as the league announced its post-season awards. Center Kaydon Kirby was an honorable mention C-USA pick.
Brooks has made seven-straight starts at defensive back and was the seventh leading tackler on the team - and the leading tackler among freshman on the team - with 38. Brooks made his first career start against Western Kentucky and totaled nine tackles, including 2.5 for loss and two passes broken up. In the win over UTSA, Brooks had a career-high and team-leading 11 tackles.
Miles started 11 games at right tackle as a redshirt freshman and played in all 12. He made his first start at SMU to open the season, and helped the Mean Green rush for over 200 yards in three games.
The anchor of the offensive line, Kirby started in 10 of the 12 games this season and helped pave the way for running back Jeffrey Wilson, who ranked seventh in C-USA in rushing. Kirby's streak of starting 35 straight games was snapped late in the year because of injury.
It's the second time in his career that Kirby has been named all-conference. In 2013, Kirby was named to the all-freshman team.
