Fine, Hamilton Earn All-Freshman Honors From C-USA

Dec. 6, 2016

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA has announced its 2016 All-Freshman football team, as selected by the league's 13 head football coaches. Quarterback Mason Fine and linebacker LaDarius Hamilton were Mean Green selections, as 12 of the 13 teams had at least one All-Freshman selection.

Fine (Locust Grove, Oklahoma) burst onto the scene for the Mean Green in 2016, earning the starting quarterback role ahead of North Texas’ second game of the season. He completed 155-of-261 passes for 1572 yards with six touchdowns during the regular season. Additionally, he had a pair of rushing touchdowns, including the longest run by a North Texas quarterback in program history, 80 yards at UTSA on October 29 in San Antonio. Fine threw for touchdowns in six straight games before leaving in the second quarter at Western Kentucky on November 12 with an injury.

Hamilton (Corrigan, Texas) has had a tremendous freshman season, sharing time along the defensive line and has been a key factor on special teams in kick and punt coverage. He posted nine total tackles, recorded the first sack of his career and also had three tackles for loss during the regular season.

The Mean Green, in their first year under rookie head coach Seth Littrell, made one of the biggest turnarounds in the nation, going from 1-11 in 2015 to 5-7 in 2016. The Mean Green are slated to oppose Army in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas.

Bowl-game tickets are on sale now through the North Texas Ticket Office, and ticket information is available at
