Fine Named First-Team All-Conference
Wilson, Guyton, Moore Named Second Team, Eight Others Honorable Mentions
IRVING – Sophomore Mason Fine was named first team all-Conference USA quarterback, the league office announced Tuesday.
Fine, who was on C-USA’s all-freshman team a year ago, is the first North Texas quarterback to be named first-team all-conference since Scott Hall in 2003 and the first sophomore to be named first-team QB since Scott Davis in 1988.
Although North Texas won the C-USA West Division championship, Fine was the Mean Green’s only first-team selection as determined by the league’s 14 head coaches.
Senior running back Jeffery Wilson, senior kicker Trevor Moore and redshirt sophomore receiver Jalen Guyton earned second-team recognition.
Eight other Mean Green student-athletes garnered honorable mention plaudits: senior offensive lineman T.J. Henson, junior offensive lineman Jordan Murray, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Elex Woodworth, redshirt sophomore center Sosaia Mose, sophomore receiver Michael Lawrence, junior defensive lineman Roderick Young, redshirt junior linebacker E.J. Ejiya, and senior safety Kishawn McClain.
Fine, who leads C-USA’s second-ranked offense, has completed 64.3 percent of his passes, for single-season school records of 3,749 yards and 28 touchdowns. Seventeen of his 28 touchdowns were for 20 yards or more and 10 were for 40 yards or more. He leads C-USA in touchdown passes (12th nationally) and passing efficiency (147.77) and is second in passing yardage (ninth nationally), passing yardage per game (288.4, 17th nationally).
Wilson had the best season of his career and soared in the North Texas record books despite missing the last two games due to injury. He set career highs with 188 carries for 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 6.5 yards per carry, which is 20th best nationally. Wilson ranks 12th nationally in rushing scores and is in the top 20 in rushing yards per game at 110.5. He moved into third on the school’s career rushing touchdown list with 32 and fourth on the rushing list with 3,205 yards.
Moore made 19 of 21 field goal attempts and was a perfect 52-for-52 on extra points. His 19 field goals tie a school record. North Texas’ most decorated kicker in school history has made the third-most consecutive PATs among active FBS kickers (151 straight), and hit two game-winning field goals. He is 8-of-10 from 40-plus yards and a perfect 11-of-11 inside of 40.
Guyton had a breakout year for the Mean Green, his first in Denton. He leads the team and ranks second in the conference in touchdown receptions with nine, good for 20th best in the nation. He hauled in 48 passes for a team-high 764 yards, averaging 15.9 yards per catch. He has 17 catches of 20 or more yards, which also leads the team. Guyton had one of the best single-game performances in the conference when he caught 14 balls for 211 yards and a score in the win at Southern Miss on Sept. 30.
