Mean Green running back Patrick Cobbs was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Football Second Team.
Cobbs, the 2003 national rushing champion, is the only Sun Belt Conference player to be named to the honor and the first North Texas player since John Baker in 1998.
Only the fourth player ever at North Texas to be selected to the Academic All-America Team, Cobbs has already completed his first bachelor’s degree and will earn a second later this month in Sociology. He has been named to the President's and Commissioner's Honor Roll for academic success as well as garnering All-America honors for his feats on the field.
The senior rushed for 1,154 yards in 2005, the second thousand-yard rushing performance of his career. In 2003, Cobbs led the nation in rushing (157.0 ypg) and scoring (11.4 ppg).
