The men's basketball team hosts in-state rival TCU at 7 pm in the Super Pit. The men (3-1) are looking to win their seventh straight game at home, dating back to last season. Come early as the the Fun Zone opens an hour prior to tip-off, located in the concourse near Gate E. Stay in your seats at halftime to see Sun Belt Commissioner Wright Waters present the fourth consecutive conference championship trophy to head coach Darrell Dickey and members of the football team.
North Texas football completed a perfect 7-0 conference record this season and clinched its fourth-straight Sun Belt Conference championship, which is the longest active championship streak of any conference in the nation. Miami won four straight Big East titles before jumping to the Atlantic Coast Conference this year.
The Mean Green will be making its fourth straight trip to the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl after completing a perfect 7-0 record in the Sun Belt Conference. It will be the fourth straight New Orleans Bowl appearance for the Mean Green and the seventh bowl appearance in school history. The Mean Green also played in the Optimist Bowl (1946), Salad Bowl (1948) and Sun Bowl (1959) in addition to the last three New Orleans Bowls.
Of all the teams playing in bowl games this season, only 20 have been to more consecutive bowl games than the Mean Green. Michigan leads the way, making its 30th straight bowl appearance when it plays in the Rose Bowl.
North Texas’ streak of four straight conference championships puts it in elite company with only 10 other schools that have ever claimed four consecutive leage titles. Prior to the Mean Green’s four straight Sun Belt championships, the feat had only been accomplished by Alabama, Arizona State, BYU, Florida, Florida State, Marshall, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and USC.
