Sophomore Picks Up National Honor After Performance Against Army
TYLER, Texas – North Texas sophomore quarterback Mason Fine has been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week after his strong performance in the win over Army West Point last week.
Fine threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns, completing 24-of-36 passes in a 52-49 victory over the Black Knights. Fine directed a 46-yard scoring drive in the final minute capped by a 39-yard Trevor Moore field goal with five seconds to play to seal the win.
Fine’s effort matched his career-best for touchdown passes and set the Mean Green’s all-time record for passing yards in a single season with 3,198. His four TD throws on Saturday give him 26 this year, tying for the most in school history in a single season. Saturday was the Locust Grove, Oklahoma, native’s sixth 300-yard passing game of the year.
Additionally, Fine is also up for the All State Sugar Bowl's Manning Award Quarterback of the Week, and fans can vote by heading here and liking Fine's photo. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, this week the winner will be announced Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT.
