Brooks and Moore Earn C-USA Player Of The Week Honors
Nate Brooks And Trevor Moore Each Earned Conference Recognition For The First Time
IRVING - Two Mean Green players earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors after their performances during last week's pivotal 29-23 win over Southern Miss. The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to North Texas sophomore cornerback Nate Brooks, who had two interceptions, a forced fumble and six tackles, while the Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to North Texas junior kicker Trevor Moore, who had another perfect day kicking in the Mean Green’s win. C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
Brooks was all over the field on Saturday for the Mean Green, as North Texas topped the Golden Eagles to keep its bowl hopes alive. Brooks intercepted a pair of passes, forced a fumble, broke up a pass and recorded six total tackles, one of which was for a loss. His two interceptions gives him a team-high four on the season. The Whitehouse, Texas, native jumped a route in the first quarter, leading to the Mean Green’s first touchdown of the day. Brooks bookended his evening with a pick late in the fourth quarter, sealing the win for the Mean Green on senior night.
With Brooks' honor this week, North Texas becomes the first C-USA school to have three different members of its secondary win Defensive Player of the Week in a season since Tulane did so in 2013.
Moore had another perfect day for the Mean Green, converting on a pair of field goal attempts, from 26 and 39 yards out, respectively, while also knocking through all three extra points he attempted. Those three extended his school record to 92-for-92 on PAT’s during his time with the Mean Green program. The Edmond, Oklahoma, native has helped the Mean Green to be one of just two teams in Conference USA to make all of their PATs this season.
