North Texas (6-4, 6-0) tries to extend its 24-game Sun Belt winning streak at Arkansas State (3-7, 3-3) tonight in Jonesboro, Ark. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast live as part of the Sun Belt ESPN Regional package with Sam Smith and Jim Donnan providing the call. It can be seen in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on KFWD Channel 52 and it can also be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) and KNTU (88.1 FM) in Dallas/Fort Worth.
North Texas leads the series with Arkansas State 7-6 and has won the last three meetings. The Indians lead the series 4-2 in Jonesboro although North Texas squeaked out a 13-10 win at the last meeting in Indian Stadium in 2002. In that game, redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Smith hooked up with George Marshall for a touchdown with 53 seconds to play in the game to secure the win. Four of the six games in Jonesboro have been decided by a touchdown or less.
North Texas will be making its fourth straight trip to the New Orleans Bowl thanks to its championship clinching win over Idaho Saturday. It will be the seventh bowl appearance in school history, with the Mean Green also playing in the Optimist Bowl (1946), Salad Bowl (1948) and Sun Bowl (1959) in addition to the last three New Orleans Bowls. Only 28 teams have been to more consecutive bowl games than North Texas with Nebraska leading the way with 35 straight.
