North Texas Hosts Troy In Homecoming Clash

DENTON, Texas (10/25/08) It's homecoming weekend for the North Texas football team and the Mean Green hosts the top team in the Sun Belt Conference in the Troy Trojans at Fouts Field tonight at 6 p.m. There is no television tonight, but the game can be heard live on the Mean Green Radio Network.

The Mean Green is still in search of its first win of the season while Troy is atop the Sun Belt Conference standings with a 3-0 mark. North Texas is 0-7 but had its best performance of the year on the road against ULM. The Mean Green held the Warhawks scoreless in the second half but could not complete the comeback.

Troy has won two straight games and starts a two-game road trip in Denton. The Trojans started the conference year off with a win against Middle Tennessee since then has picked up wins over Florida Atlantic and Florida International.

Troy leads the series with the Mean Green 4-1. The two teams first met in 2001 at Troy. That game was played the week after North Texas captured the first ever Sun Belt Conference football championship. Troy knocked off the Mean Green 18-16 thanks to a last second field goal.

The only North Texas win in the series was a 21-0 shutout in Denton in 2003. With the exception of last seasons game, the contests have been low scoring defensive struggles.
